OPEN YOUR LEARNING BLOG
In this lesson you are going to get a flavour of what it means to develop a successful app product. You are going to understand key lessons from those who have done it before.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
You will learn to:
Identify some of the key challenges with app development
Describe the team rapid prototyping
Practise wireframing a phone app
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T0vt3nLZKks
Downlaod the Google App called Mockups.me.
TASK 1
Watch the video called 'New Product Development Starter' about students who have experienced apps for good and note the key lessons that have been learnt in your in your learning blog.

RAPID PROTOTYPING
As a class let's watch the following short YouTube video:
This video gives a simple overview of the features of a mockup for a web page.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vXLDqaH9vkE
This video describes the term wire framing but is some detail and you may want to watch it separately

TASK 2
Working in teams (one pair andone three) attempt to rapid prototype one of your favourite apps by recreating it using mockups.me.
Include a link to a screen dumps of the mock up in your blog. You may want to do this by opening a Google doc to record your work and putting the link into your blog.
TASK 3
Complete the app critique exercise - you almost certainly need to do this as part of your homework. This should take about ten minutes and will show you how to critically analyse the former Apps for Good competition winner apps.
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&srcid=0ByGWyKe-Ivm7eGVHT2pCN28xS2c
In your learning blog make sure that you have listed three things that you would for differently with your product
HOMEWORK
1. Make sure that you have finished the rapid prototyping exercise and have got evidence of this in your learning blog. Be sure to say who your partners were.
2. Complete the App Critique exercise and make sure that it is written up in your learning blog.
Final Task
For today's lesson write a post about what you have learnt today and the progress you have made.
A good app is simple and clear as to what it is about / what you can do. They are also fun and easy to use with good design and colours to make it more interesting for users
ReplyDeleteA bad app has too many functions in it which can make it slow to respond due to being too large and it takes lots of memory in your phone making it unappealing. If it doesn't give clear instruction about how to use it, it can be confusing as well.
A good app is made to interest people who like using apps. A good app is very clear and not confusing. Also a good app is not loaded with sources which allows the app to respond quickly with out loading. A good app is also very bright full instead of dull and boring. Users like the app to be clear and structural so there is no confusion of where things are.
ReplyDeleteA bad app is crammed with sources making the app respond slow leaving the user sat there with bore. A bad app is also dull and boring making the user feeling dark and miserable. Apps filled with sources are also very confusing this is because the user has no idea where anything is.

a good app is easy to use and is presented clearly. It also has to be eye-catching and useful. It must meet user needs and what is advertised, living up to expectation.
ReplyDeleteA bad app is unhelpful, unclear and underwhelming. It doesn't live up to expectation and user needs aren't considered. It's advertising may be wrong and misleading.
A good app is when it is clear and easy to read. It isn't confusing and is suitable for any age. Also it is a good app if it isn't over complicated and isn't impossible to work. It needs to be appealing to the eye otherwise you will not be impressed.
ReplyDeleteA bad app is when you wait 10 minutes for the app to load. If the app is dull and boring it won't be a popular app. Also if the app is too complicated people won't be able to use it so it will be a bad app
A good app is an app that is simple, easy to use and accessible in most areas. It should be appealing to users by using bright colours, bold text and good designs.
ReplyDeleteA bad app is an app that is complicated and hard to use. It'll use up a large amount of storage which results in the app being slow to respond. Also if it doesn't give clear instructions which will cause confusion.
A good app is unique, useful and easy to use and maybe one that solves a common problem like maps they have all but been replaced by sat-navs apps and cheap but useful in everyday life
ReplyDeleteA bad app is one that is over complicated, isn't easy to navigate, glitchy, uses up large amount of data and doesn't work as intended.
A good app is appealing, easy to use and interesting. It has to be easy to use so that people can use it without thinking, bright and colourful so that the app doesn't look dull and of an interesting or a purpose so people have a purpose to use it.
ReplyDeleteA bad app is dull, uninteresting and complicated. It is hard to use i.e too many drop down menus or too many buttons, if it is dull the user could be easily bored same goes for uninteresting topic or one of no purpose.
a good app is an app that does not crash and it is fast and appealing so it persuades them to downlode the app.A good app is an app that is fast and does not crash.
ReplyDeleteA bad app is a app that is slow does and crashes .
A good app should not crash or freeze the computer, and it should solve an every day issue such as finding a restaurant. It should be easy for the user to find information needed. It should be foolproof! A bad app will be make it difficult for the user to find useful information, maybe because of a confusing layout.
